Four Editions, Four Major Titles: Kurt Jung Clinches PS Championship IV Main Event

Kurt Jung entered Players Series Championship IV having won a championship title at every previous edition - two PS Championship Super High Roller titles and one PS Championship High Roller.

With PSC back in Asia Poker Arena in Taipei for its fourth edition, the Korean pro, most commonly known for his moniker "7high", was on a mission to make it four for four.

Starting with the PSC Super High Roller, he came agonizingly close, reaching heads up before finishing runner-up. The next day, he bagged the lead at Flight E of the Main Event, and just like that, he was in contention for the biggest event of the festival.

Two days later, it was mission accomplished.

Jung tamed the hot running Chi Ting-Chieh to clinch the PS Championship Main Event title and earned the lion's share worth NT$ 2,555,888 from the NT$ 16,365,888 prize pool.

Chi Sets the Pace

The road to title number four was a major grind. During the final two tables, after an intense hand against Anton Lu that sent Jung deep in the tank, he was heard saying,

"Still a long way to go."

And standing in his way for much of that road was Chi Ting-Chieh who emerged as the player to catch over the final two days.

At Day 2, with only 88 returning out of the 574 total entries, Chi quickly climbed the leaderboard. He ended the title defense of Kim Kiyoung ensuring a new Main Event champion would be crowned.

As the field thinned, he eliminated the starting day chip leader Ho Yi-Chang on a cooler with aces over kings to bag up the lead with 116 big blinds.

Jung also maintained a big stack with several knockouts under his belt to close with 97 big blinds. When play stopped with ten remaining, the two were firmly positioned for a run at the title.

A Rivalry Emerges

On the final day, both players took charge of their respective tables and after Chi delivered the final table bubble in Manwoo Park, he entered the final table just one big blind ahead of Jung.

After Ho Yin Joycelyn Lam exited (9th), Chi continued his dominance, eliminating Felix Klaus Kohl (8th) and Lee Hyunjin (7th) to amass forty percent of the chips in play by six-handed.

Jung closed the gap after he eliminated Lu in 6th place followed by Yuan Yang Shen in 5th place. With those two stacks absorbed, Jung was back alongside Chi while the remaining two players sat well behind the frontrunners.

After Hsueh Yi Chen fell in 4th place to Sung Sik Eum, three-handed ran a lengthy 46 hands out of the total 108 hands of the final table. With blinds high, Jung wrestled the lead away when he open shoved and Chi tanked for four time banks. Chi answered back with a stone cold bluff.

The three-way eventually broke open when Jung eliminated Sung in 3rd place to carry 60 bb into heads up against Chi's 30 bb.

Though still deep, the highly anticipated clash of titans only ran three hands. Jung five-bet shoved and Chi called. The board bricked for Jung's ace-king to stay ahead of ace-ten and clinch the coveted PSC Main Event title.

Wan Yun Lai Wins PSC Mini Championship

The last marquee event of the series was the PSC Mini Championship, running from August 30 to 31. Across three starting flights, the event drew 190 entries for a NT$2,462,400 prize pool, with 30 players reaching the money.

Among them was Wan Yun Lai who was eliminated in the PSC Main Event in 25th place after Chi Ting-Chieh turned over the higher straight. Lai quickly put those winnings back to work. He jumped into Flight B of the PSC Mini Championship and powered through to secure a spot on Day 2 and onwards to the final table.

At heads up, Lai and Cheng Yi Lin struck an even deal for the remaining cash, each guaranteed a payout of NT$ 425,100, then play resumed for the trophy. Lai defeated Lin to be crowned the PSC Mini Championship champion.
